It can be hard to motivate people to get involved in online communities outside of social media sites. Almost all of our players are on Facebook and active in our various Facebook groups. You log in, read and react to posts, and you can be fairly confident you’re staying informed. From a business perspective this can be problematic because we have greater control over our site than Facebook. Fortunately we have a great resource to help incentivise website usage: Soul Frags!
Post on the forums, earn soul frags, loot people faster!
We picked the new forum software for the website partly because it allows us to track and reward player contributions. Asking and answering questions, posting missives on the skein gate, advertising goods and services, these are all things that add value to our site. They’re all things that help our community.
For every certain number of posts you make on the forums, or questions you ask or answer, you’ll be rewarded with frags. You can see the values we’ve set for forum rankings in the screenshot below.

We’re awarding soul frags at levels 5, 8 and 10. The higher values represent a harder goal to achieve and have a higher quantity of soul frags. You can see the payout values in the table below.

The website is a better tool than Facebook groups
Content on Facebook gets lost in the feed and isn’t great for search. We’ve built the website and we can control how it works. It’s incredibly powerful for asking and answering questions and we really want to see it get used more. We can add tags, we can have discussions, we can select correct answers and we can easily search forum content. Posts created in our marketplace have a better chance of achieving long-term engagement for many of these same reasons.
If you post about offering goods or services in a Facebook group, that post will eventually become harder to find. That’s just the nature of the Facebook stream. It’s all content, all the time, and no categorization. Our forums allow us to use different formats and a lot of categories. Posting on the forums also makes your content easily searchable alongside our blog posts, rulebooks and lore content. Importantly: You can link more easily to content on our website, so it can be used for promo purposes.

In the coming weeks we also plan on looking into an integration so you can get push notifications right on your phones. We’re going to keep adding new and exciting features to our site in order to help make Underworld LARP the best possible experience for our players.
