Underworld LARP has an amazing, interconnected world with a massive history. Events that happen in one part of the world can impact other locations. A great example of this type of in-game mechanic is The Mortigeist.

The Mortigeist In-Game

The Mortigeist exists in-game to kill elves. He’s a dark, broken and conflicted demi-god with a tragic past. He cannot be reasoned with and is one of the greatest enemies in Maud’Madir. He gains strength when elves die. Every time an elf dies The Mortigeist gets closer to breaking free of his cage so that he can burst into the world and, in a fit of rage, try and kill more elves.

Once enough elves die the Mortigeist is released into the world. His godlike powers allow him to appear almost anywhere. Learn more about the Mortigeists lore here.

The Mortigeist Out-Of-Game

The Mortigeist is a resource available to the shaper teams at our various Chapters in order to give players a reason to run and hide. All elf deaths, either from players or from non-player characters, count towards the total needed to release him into our game. Elves die in our world every day, even when our players aren’t at events, so the counter will go up gradually over time. Once the count is reached the Mortigeist becomes available for the plot teams for their next event.

If they opt to include him in the game he will be released in order to try and kill as many elves as possible. This means that every player in every game, sometimes multiple times per year, will have an opportunity to come face to face with one of the great evils of the world.

Currently, the Mortigeist is bound. You are safe…for now. Read what happened here https://underworldlarp.com/community/postid/512/
