Underworlder,

I bring you news. From beneath the iron-laced balconies and flickering gaslight of New Orleans a new Underworld Guild gathers like a secret in the shadowed heart of Louisiana. Surrounded by deadly bayous, crumbling cemeteries and the tangled embrace of cypress trees, Louisiana’s dark lore is a tangled tapestry of ghost stories, forbidden magic, and whispered curses, stitched together from centuries of conquest, tragedy, and survival. We barely needed to write a setting description. It already existed OOG.

Please join us in welcoming Underworld LARP Louisiana, Guildhouse Chanté Noir!

Hidden deep in the choking embrace of the southern bayous of Arthos, the town of Chanté Noir is more whispered about than visited. Locals say the name comes from the black song the swamps hum at dusk, a low, droning melody that seems to follow travelers long after they’ve left the waterline. The origin of the settlement is lost to rot and time, but the crumbling stonework foundations and rust-bitten wrought iron fences suggest the hands of a long-forgotten colonial power.

Chanté Noir is an unclaimed settlement, no proper Baron or recognized noble lays claim to it, and none seem eager to. The town stands on soil soaked with old blood and older curses. Its people, those few who remain, are a strange breed: weathered, wary, and fluent in both the old tongue and the quiet signs used to ward off things that crawl from the marsh after nightfall.

The surrounding swamplands are a tangled mess of half-sunken manors, leaning cypress trees, and fog-thick trails that shift from one season to the next. Folk legends speak of the Marais Chanteur, "the Singing Marsh", which is said to lure the lost to their deaths, their final screams woven into the endless nighttime hum.

Almost as dark and terrifying as the land itself, join me in welcoming your new GMs:

Adam Warmhold

Meet Adam, a longtime LARP enthusiast whose passion breathes life into every storyline.

From a young age, Adam thrived in a variety of sports. Football, wrestling, baseball, and hockey, building a foundation of athleticism, teamwork, and discipline. After graduating from high school in New York, he transitioned into the world of professional wrestling and combat sports, dedicating a full decade to honing his craft among the ring, the training gym, and the roar of the crowd. But, Adam's passions didn’t stop there. He also cultivated a love for immersive, theatrical experiences, spending nearly ten years at the acclaimed New York Renaissance Faire performing as a stage combatant. These combined experiences solidified his love for giving back to a waiting audience. Even as the fair’s torches dimmed, he carried that energy forward into spooky realms at the Faire’s affiliated haunted attraction, “The Forest of Fear.”

For over ten years, Adam has immersed himself in the world of Live Action Role-Playing, playing, organizing, and staffing more than half a dozen LARPs across the Eastern US. From navigating the ruins of a post-apocalyptic wasteland to enchanting fantasy realms and unraveling supernatural mysteries he's done it all with flair and dedication.

Since 2021, he’s been a pivotal force in the Underworld LARP community, where he joined the original Shaper team at Underworld Dark Harbor in his home state of Florida, taking over as the Head of Plot shortly after and has remained on that team for over 4 years.

When he's not conjuring imaginative tales or infusing playful dread into his friends' lives, Adam is probably off adventuring with his wife, Sarah, whom he met at a LARP event, no less. Their shared love for live‑action role‑playing is still a cornerstone of their connection today. However, when the costumes come off, Adam doubles down on the fun, he’s a devoted gamer across multiple formats, diving into tabletop RPGs, collectible card games, and board games with equal enthusiasm.

It’s this deep love for LARP and his unwavering desire to give back that inspired him to step up as Guildmaster for the newest Underworld chapter. With a love for storytelling as vivid as the worlds he helps bring to life, Adam is ready to guide you into the songs and shadows…Welcome to Chanté Noir.

Lia Leleux

Since first picking up a foam weapon in 2018, Lia has been a whirlwind of costuming creativity, rulebook knowledge, and boundless enthusiasm. Two years as a New Player Liaison taught her the fine art of shepherding wide-eyed recruits into fearless adventurers, while her time as “Dragon Mom” in Uw Toronto earned her a reputation for equal parts kindness and ferocity. Whether she’s teaching a newcomer how to land their first “fatal” blow or rallying a guild for a late-night quest, Lia is rarely seen without a grin and a plan.

In her travels through UW Toronto, Lia once sat upon the Council, where her voice carried as much weight as her foam sword. She’s known for weaving rich stories into her games, sprinkling in just enough chaos to keep everyone on their toes. Wherever she goes, the adventure is bound to be grand, the laughs plentiful, and the snacks excellent.

Beyond the field of battle, Lia’s own saga is worthy of song: a Canadian traveler whose fateful meeting with her husband in the realm of World of Warcraft led her across borders to the United States. There, she claimed a new party - three beloved stepchildren, and a homestead guarded by a loyal hound and two mischievous cats. Fierce protector, devoted stepmom, and champion of all creatures great and small, Lia’s life, both in and out of game, is a quest well worth telling.

April 3, 2265

Maud’madir is under siege.

A foul alliance of Man and Demon ravages the lands of all those that once swore to the Light. Those that are willing to bend the knee are made to serve, while those that are not are slaughtered like suckling pigs. Their towns are razed, their fields salted, and their very hopes are washed away by the demonic tide.

Several of these foul butchers have been captured by those who still hold fast to the Light, and were subsequently put to the question. Yet, despite having seemingly very little in common, each and every single one of these demonic-tainted warriors has told the same tale. When the Hell King violated the very fabric of Arthos with his globe-spanning spell, hundreds of thousands were slain as the presence of divine magic or favour upon them became a most foul curse, ripping their very spirits from their flesh in an instant. While some were saved before death could claim them, or when others were at least strong enough of spirit to resurrect, many instead met what should have been their final end.

Ultimately, It was not.

When these beings opened their eyes, they did not bear witness to the glories of the heavens that they felt that they were owed, that they deserved for all the grim deeds they had done in the name of the Light.

Before them stretched a vast, desolate plain of nearly infinite size, its sand - pulverized bones of a million innocents. The skies that developed them were as a shrieking tempest, the spirits of countless damned mortals wailing their regrets and laments as they were whipped about like cloth in a hurricane. At the center of this horrific place stood a ziggurat of what was once white marble, now stained black by a literal ocean of divine blood that had long since scabbed over. As these spirits walked towards the foot of this grim edifice, they passed by hundreds of still living trophies, monuments to the overwhelming power & glory of the realm’s occupant.

Mounted upon blackened pikes stood the heads of both Gods and Dragons, the light of sentience still reflected faintly in their eyes, but the majority of their mind was clearly lost to madness.

Not even the strongest willed spirit amongst the throngs that shuffled to the foot of the Ziggurat could bear to look upon the figure who sat upon the loathsome throne atop its peak, for even the barest of glances invited madness and insanity. Perhaps then, that is why those present on that day or on subsequent occurrences choose not to focus on that sublime being, and instead remember what hung in the air above it.

The Black Sun.

Awash in its midnight radiance, a voice echoed forth onto the minds of each and every spirit. To those that would serve it promised power, glory, victory, and a place in the New Order that the Hellstack would impress upon all of creation. To those that refused, it promised only an eternity of torment, without the release of death or dissolution. Of those spirits, we know precious little, save that not even the strongest mystics were incapable of calling to them.

Those spirits that accepted the pact all had their own reasons for doing so. Some merely craved the power that it offered, for the previously fallen Church of Light they had fought for had just been a socially-acceptable way to indulge their darker impulses. Some gave in out of despair, reasoning that the Gods they had served in life were either truly dead, gone, or weak enough for the distinction to be unimportant. And for some, the mental fog that clouded their minds during their service to Roderick Hale never truly faded, and they simply believed that they continued uninterrupted along the same grim, yet righteous path. Whatever the case may be, all those who accepted the power of the Black Sun found themselves restored to the world of the living, empowered with both the powers of the Hellstack and divine power stolen from the Celestial realms.

Calling themselves the “Temple of the Black Sun,’ these once supposedly-righteous warriors quickly organized when they returned to the mortal plane, and with entire legions of demonic soldiers at their command they began to lay waste to what was once the Kingdom of Teifanue. Without the presence of Prince Leopold or any of his divinely appointed bloodline, its people have remained scattered and weak. Castle Lightguard was the first to fall to the Hell King’s unobfuscated demonic horde, and the pattern that was established there was then repeated countless times across the countryside. Whereas Hale had once believed that the actions of himself and his armies still served the Light, these monsters suffer no such delusions. They knew exactly what they were doing as they butchered Castle Lightguard’s people and looted priceless magical artifacts from its vaults. Since that horrific day, countless other settlements have met the same fate, and the horde shows little sign of slowing down…

The other nations of the Whiteraven Alliance have hardly fared better. Demonic cults, once the product of gossip and whispered rumors, have thrown off their cloaks of obfuscation and have begun to strike out openly at the forces of the Light in earnest. Already beset by the chaos that has engulfed Maud’madir and suffering from the losses that the Divine Severance inflicted upon their populaces, many of these nations were ill-prepared for these assaults. Their respective militaries, economies, and societies along with their leadership have truly been stretched to the breaking point. The Council of Elders has not met in months, and little to no cooperation currently exists between its various member-states. Most are simply too focused on their own survival to look past their borders and provide aid to their allies.

The Empire of Berphaunt and its client kingdoms remain closed off from the chaos that threatens to envelop the continent, and curiously this approach seems to have more or less had the desired effect. While scattered demonic assaults have touched upon the outskirts of the Empire, none of their great cities have felt the full measure of the Hellstack’s might. Berphaunt and its possessions lie almost completely unharmed, and while isolated from much of the world, life seems to continue for its citizens as it always has. Many beings, both from within the Empire and outside of it, have questioned why this is the way it is. And while there are many theories why the Empire yet remains largely unmolested, the dominant and cynical view that is commonly expressed across the continent is that quite simply, the armies of the Hellstack have already defeated the Empire. For despite all of its manpower, vast magical, economic, and military might, it does not seem to be willing to wield it. Thus, it is not a threat. Pleas for aid from all corners of Maud’madir, even from nations that would have considered the Empire their sworn enemy, lie unheeded and unanswered by the Emperor and his subjects. Indeed, the only evidence that the Empire stirs at all lies with a sudden and unexplained burst of activity from the Conclave. The Red and White towers have recently stirred to life in a manner not seen since the creation of the Gargalen, and entire teams of Archmages have left their tower laboratories in search of ancient arcane secrets.

Yet, all hope is not yet lost. Queen Seltia Allana of Felnir has rallied what remains of the repentant Church of Light to her banner, and alongside a host of her loyal Savar, fights a brutal running war with the Temple of the Black Sun in Teifanue. Where they all she could muster, it is doubtful the noble Queen could offer the demons anything more than a token resistance. Fortunately, she is not alone in this fight.

Queen Revna Mothersblood has united the Einish clans and surged south out of Mjoll, her horde of furious northern barbarians gleefully taking the fight to the cultists and their demonic masters. While most are more than happy for the aid that the Einish bring, rumors abound of entire swaths of land forsaking their bonds to Teifanue and swearing oaths of service to Queen Mothersblood. Whether this happens out of fear or out of genuine gratitude and respect is still as of yet uncertain, and some still deny that these developments occurred at all. Queen Allana has heard these rumors, but she dares not check her fellow Queen, because like it or not, all of Teifanue would have since been food for the demons were it not for the Einish warbands. She also remains torn by the fact that ultimately, it is not a war she can win, even with an army of furious Einher at her back. That much is obvious to even the lowest of her soldiers, And yet, still they continue to fight, for it is a cause worth fighting for.

Please join me in welcoming our NEW Underworld LARP Toronto Guildmaster’s, Patrick McHugh and Jeff Czetwerzuk. In addition, make noise for the birth of a new global Hydra head, Underworld LARP- Guildhouse ??? (dramatic mystery music)

Patrick and Jeff - Welcome to both of you. Please enjoy the shoes we have left for you to fill. Ted left a dead mouse in one of his <3

I’ll tell you something, when we were planning on what to do next it really just looked like closing Toronto was our easiest option. We did not expect these two champions to appear from thin air like evil wraths and take the helm. We are incredibly grateful and excited to see what they can do with it. This chapter of Underworld Toronto is a new beginning, a new town and a new place on the global map. There will be no carry over with Jericho stories as they wished to have the cleanest slate possible. We are happy to oblige.

Here’s a little about your new Guildmasters:

Patrick McHugh
The first time Patrick LARPed was 2017, and he has been progressively getting more involved in the scene as time passed. From making full chest surgery reps to mowing the lawns, Patrick’s been involved with Underworld more than most players, helping out in any way he can. This year he whet his blade as a leader on the Logistics team. In addition to those duties he has also been a free hand at NPC camp, covering for the Lead Shaper when needed.

A forever improv Dungeon Master, board game enthusiast, proud father of a wonderful daughter, Patrick now steps up to run the show with his partner in crime.

Jeff Czetwerzuk
Jeff has been an UW Larper since 2013 and found out about Underworld LARP with his brother at Fan Expo where he participated in and won the sword fighting tournament. His brother swept the competition the next day and the two, feeling victorious, decided to try out the real thing. After his first game Jeff was sold and has now been playing Underworld ever since, often taking some stints Monster Marshalling, weekend NPCing, Shaping and Narrating.

Jeff’s love for fantasy worlds and role playing began when he was quite young but especially so at about the age of 11 or 12. Jeff remembers going to a friend's house and seeing a DnD game setup. As Jeff walked in and saw the pencils, sheets of paper, figures, and dice he chuckled at the idea and said no way he would play DND. Well next thing you know after his friend convicted him to sit down and give it a shot, Jeff was rolling dice and shooting arrows well past midnight - and hasn’t looked back since.

Other hobbies Jeff enjoys are camping, playing trading card games like Magic, playing various video games, playing board games and enjoying time with family friends and his dogs. Jeff is excited to give back to the community and the game he has enjoyed so much the past 10 years and can’t wait to do so in a meaningful way.

We wish you both the best in this and we hope the Global community welcomes them to our dysfunctional family. I'm personally very excited to retire from event running and build my bog Wytch cabin in our swamp. More updates soon!

Jericho Players - Characters still alive after Hallows’, in the Toronto Chapter, will be ported in some manner to the new Guild town. OOG Transfers are not necessary and will be automated. Frag totals are being kept as is. Patrick and Jeff wish to continue playing on Vandalheim (our old site) and we are happy to have them. We didn’t spend $9000 on a Skein Gate for nothing. Both of these gentlemen have also agreed to abide by our old cabin policy. That is to say, if you’re an active player, and you have built a cabin, you can continue to use it. If you are not an active player, you will likely get a message soon from the new team, asking for some updates. Nobody is looking to seize cabins, we just want them used and kept in safe order.

Guildhouse Howling Wilds will be opening full season In the Spring of 2024 but who knows what happens between now and then, they might want to do something smaller in scale to get the ball rolling. As you can imagine, they have their work cut out for them, as a starting Guild from scratch is tough. So please, I encourage you to join their socials, help them build hype, give advice and support however you can. And travel… go play their game

Guildhouse Howling Wilds will be run by Guildmaster’s Taylor Allan and Ryan Jackson and they will be running on their own dedicated site. That site is currently being used for all sorts of amazing inclusive events themed towards kink, pride, and a half dozen other subcultures that I know all you larpers are likely into. I’ll include the link to their site below. They host really good events and now they will join the UW LARP fam. Exciting times.

Here’s a bit about your GMs.

Taylor Allan
Taylor is a long-time Underworld LARPer who began LARPing with Jericho in 2012. He was hooked after his first game and jumped in right away, using his costuming skills gained from cosplay and acting skills to really get into character. He often volunteered to NPC (back before it was mandatory), ran convention booths, and even joined Underworld on Dragon's Den. He's an avid lover of roleplay and worldbuilding, and is a shameless alt-aholic who quickly realised NPCing scratched that itch - with the added benefit of creating incredible experiences for other players. Beyond LARPing, Taylor loves camping and roughing it in the woods - so you can see how LARPing is a perfect fit for him!

There’s probably a good correlation between how much you put into an event and how long it takes to recover enough to say thank you. We put a lot into this event. This was the toughest Warcry I’ve ever done but we did it and we only did it because of all of you.

So, I hope you had fun, I hope you enjoyed the stories we worked so hard to tell, and I hope you made a ton of new friends (and at least 3 enemies).

Tammy and I want to thank my entire Shaper and Narrator team first. Kieran, Trevor, Jay, Sethan, Jeremy and Adam. You all really pulled through and exceeded expectations. Special thanks to Kendra and Anthony who did a bunch of prep but couldn’t make the event. Our Narrators Kae, Bianca, Jon, Monica, and Miranda were the best. You all pretty much stepped up and shaped at times. B was the best Black Wytch.

Our Monster Marshals, Jeff and Coleman were insane. You guys did so good and never once appeared frustrated. Given how quickly we had to deviate from the game plan, you guys took it all in stride.

Our Site Manager and Lead Logistics, Patrick and our NPC Camp Lead, Thai, both of you guys showed up well before Warcry and helped us get the land and props in order. You guys did so much and we’re so grateful.

Our Log Team, Gaylen, Val, Caro, Jordan, and Lilly. Max’s Armour and Weapons Marshal team, Rio and Meagan, all did a fantastic job. Same with our last minute but incredibly important photo ninja’s, Cass and Michael. Thank you, you saved us from a promo perspective.

I want to personally thank Val for stepping up and playing Revna Mothersblood for us. Val was supposed to PC that event but she did me the biggest solid and helped cover for Kendra when she got sick. Val, you did an incredible job with Revna. You made this game. We had some Mournfall people that stepped up and took roles / leadership positions when they didn’t have to. I don’t know everybody but Max, Chris, and Andrew (best) stood out to me. Thank you to all of them. Same with Kyle Fair (Blood and Glory!) who helped run some cool RP elements of a few of the final mods that really made them pop. I also want to thank my partners in crime, Tammy and Edward. Tammy just is Tammy and did everything and I love her for it. Edward played the Mortigiest (RIP) and came all the way out from Toronto just for the hour-long role. We couldn’t have done it with any other player.

Give it up also for Greg and his tavern crew. Greg did a TON of work to get this together in short notice. If you owe him money… PAY HIM. He earned it. <3

Finally, our GMs for showing up in force, dragging their players with them, and also helping us out on the backend when needed. We want to thank our NPCs, shifties and ultimately you, our players. You guys did a great job. Everybody looked amazing. Your kit, your character development and your desire to roleplay is what sets UW above other LARPS. I am proud of what we did here last weekend.

If I missed anybody, please throw me a PM. Event Summary is getting proofed and getting close to closing this chapter.
Until next time.

This account of the Battle of Harag Pass has been taken from questioning those who fought on the fields of battle, as well as what I witnessed myself as an observer. This record has been made to ensure that the deeds and honour of those who fought on this day are kept and remembered. Though this is not my cause, I am honoured and humbled to have witnessed the conviction and commitment of the men and women who fought for both sides.

Harag Pass

Harag Pass is a key logistical location in Mjoll, resting in a large basin surrounded by mountains on all sides. The large town residing within it, Harag, is fed by a series of streams and rivers that run through the mountains and built-up roadways and dense forest, home to much game. Whoever holds this pass holds the key to moving soldiers, supplies and equipment through the mountains of Mjoll.

The forces of Revna Mothersblood of Clan Oslo took the Harag Pass in the early days of the war, with a quick raid and the pacification of nearby towns and ports. Harag Pass has acted as a staging point for her forces, with more and more of her army beginning to congregate at the pass, presumably for a decisive march on Orin the Bastard's personal holdings in the heart of Mjoll. These movements did not go unnoticed, perhaps validating the rumours that those within Revna's ranks had taken Malar-Skaw gold for information. What is known, however, is that in the days before the battle, the surrounding towns and ports received vast shipments of coin and wealth. They did not act or raise the alarm as Orin's forces moved in by road and river, no doubt due to this.

With this information, the stage was set for the battle, and the battle can be described in three phases; the day, the night and the morning.

The Day

On the morning of the battle, the basin of Harag Pass was covered in a magical fog accompanied by the sound of constant buzzing bees. Under this cover, a convoy of Orin's ships made their way up the river to the town of Harag. Only when the vessels were near the docks did the town's watchtowers spot them and light their beacons. The defenders on the docks sprung into action. Strong arms moved great levers to raise chains from the riverbed, but not in time. They only managed to entangle the rearmost ships, though they caused great damage as the hulls were forced into each other, cracking and splintering, forcing crew overboard. From the stone walls along the docks, those in kilts of Hunhil black and white could be seen pouring vats of alchemy down into the waters below. The unfortunate spirits forced into the waters soon found their skin being burned as the acid made contact. The acid would have burned away at Orin's ships had their prows not been reinforced with Conlan forged steel. Entangled by chains and decimated by acid, the survivors in the rear of Orin's assault made it to the opposite shore while the lead ships docked at the town's port.

The first off the ships had kilts of Wolfsgar black and red. They wore light shirts of woven chains and carried the weapons and looks of seasoned hunters. With them came packs of braying hounds armoured in kind. Under a rain of arrows and alchemy from the walls of the docks by those in black and white stepped one of the most vicious Einher witnessed, Festargarmr, Chieftain of the Wolfsgar. Across his body, he bore scars from blade and fang alike. "Bedriva" Festargarmr spun a length of spiked chain in the air and barked an order "jaga och döda" or hunt and kill. At those words, Einher and hound alike leapt forward to charge the barricades, both frothing at the mouth. They charged the barricades, biting and hacking. It was hard to tell man from hound in the flurry of flesh, blood and fur. The Bothnians were routed from the docks and fled into the corridors of the town.

Festargarmr urged his warriors in pursuit of the fleeing Bothnians. The Wolfsgar hunting packs drove forth into the town. They did not meet the backs of fleeing Bothnians, however. They instead charged into the long axes and claymores of heavily armoured Galloglach warriors stationed to hold these pathways; the Wolfsgar skirmishers stood no chance. When they turned to flee, the Galloglach unleashed a hail of javelins, cutting them down. Those that could escaped and went to secure the dock so that Orin and the crews of the ships sunk could get a foothold into the town.

On the other side of the town stood the front gate, with Oslo Shieldmaidens stationed along the walls. At the same time as Orin's ships hit the dock of Harag, from the dense forests the gate looked out upon came tartans of Gotlands black and blue alongside those of Fenrik black and yellow. Revna's Shieldmaidens braced as Orin's forces began to unleash a torrent of spells at the walls.

Despite their unwavering courage and unyielding defence, the relentless assault of the Gotland mages and Fenriks proved too overwhelming for the Shieldmaidens. A Fenrik contingent led by Tyrik the half-man made an attempt to assault the walls. Upon the walls, Tyrik and Revna clashed. Fury was in Revna's eyes, and each blow of her blade sent Tyrik reeling until a final blow removed his head, and his body fell from the ramparts. As the battle wore on, exhaustion began to take its toll, and cracks began to appear in the once impenetrable shield wall. The maidens fought valiantly, but their numbers dwindled as the day wore on, and the enemy's magic began to overwhelm them.

The setting sun gleaned off spears that could be seen coming down the mountain pass to Harag. The thunderous beat of hooves echoed through the basin. Skarde the Ironbred of clan Bothnia, arrived alongside Arvid-Vano of clan Oresund, all mounted on horseback. A cheer rose up from the defenders of Harag. The cavalry crested the hill, the sounds of hooves drowned out by the screaming of wood and metal as a trebuchet fired from the other side of the dock. The sheen of mail and spear was blocked out as shadows took shape from the sky. Where the rocks fell, the column broke. Horses fled in whichever direction seemed safe. Clan Oresund fled the field, broken and scattered.

A devastating surge of eldritch energy from the Gotland mages finally shattered the gate's defence. A series barrage of meteors falling from the sky and columns of flame crashing against the battlements sent the Shieldmaidens reeling backwards. The townspeople cried out in despair as they watched their defenders forced to retreat, their spirits crushed but not broken. With heavy hearts, the Shieldmaidens regrouped deeper within the town.

As they fell back, the Shieldmaidens held their heads high, knowing that their sacrifice had bought precious time for the townspeople to prepare for the next wave of the assault. Determined to defend Revna to the very last, the Shieldmaidens prepared to face the Gotland and Fenriks once more, rallying the townspeople around them to stand united in the face of Orin's forces. The battle for Harag was far from over, and the Revna vowed to fight with even greater ferocity to reclaim their gate and drive the attackers back.

The Night

The sun set on Harag with Revna and her remaining forces encircled, parts of the town burning from the day's conflicts. Orin's naval assault regrouped on the docks under cover from Conlan's siege weapons. On the other side, at the gate of Harag, the clan of Gotland is reinforced by the Lofoten. The axes and swords of Galloglach, alongside the shields of Oslo, hold until the moon's rise, full and bright across the sky.

Orin had timed his battle for this night for a very good reason.

The berserker werewolves of the Lofoten cursed with a feral madness, charged recklessly through the gates of Harag. Their eyes glowed with an otherworldly intensity, their fangs glistened, and they howled with an eerie resonance. Their fury seemed boundless as they wielded their weapons—a combination of ancient Einher weaponry and their own savage claws.

Across the narrow streets and wooden buildings, the Galloglach mercenaries stood firm, their stoic expressions betraying no fear. These battle-hardened warriors from the lands of Galloglach were renowned for their combat prowess and unwavering loyalty to their chieftain. They formed an impenetrable wall with their long axes gleaming in the moonlight and claymores held at the ready.

As the Lofotens charged, the clash of steel against steel rang out like thunder. The Galloglach mercenaries defended with skilful precision, their long axes striking with lethal accuracy and their claymores sweeping through the air with deadly grace.

Javelins whistled through the night, hurled by Galloglach marksmen, seeking to impede the werewolves' advance. But the berserker werewolves, with their unnatural speed and agility, dodged many of the projectiles, their fur bristling with anticipation. While the Galloglach stood brave, many of their blades could not pierce the hides of the Wolves of the Lofoten. It is said that Adair the touched came from his tent reeking of whiskey and ordered the warriors of the Galloglach in a foolish countercharge against the enraged and blood-soaked Lofoten. The inner gate of Harag was taken by Orin's forces shortly after. Those survivors who bore witness to the fighting in the inner gate say it will be a tale they pass down to their grandchildren.

Those on the other side of the river where the Conlan siege weapons sat silent for the night. Figures under cover of darkness, their tartans unknown and unseen, came- taking out sentries, slitting their throats and strangling the siege crew as they slept. They were like weasels in a hen house as they did their work. They skulked along the surrounding mountain range, one by one removing sentries, blinding the rear of Orin's forces along the dockside.

The Morning

Skarde the Ironbred led Arvid-Vano and the routed Oresund cavalry along the northern mountains. Pushing both rider and steed through the night, they positioned themselves against the now unwatched dock side of Harag. Skarde the Ironbred held a weapon stronger than any Conlan war machine, Malar-Skaw coin or Lofoten rage. He had knowledge- for Orin the Bastard was raised as a Hunhil, and Skarde had grown up beside him. They played as youths, fought as teens, drank and loved as adults. Skarde knew the mind of Orin well. He knew where Orin would put his defences, how Orin would align his forces and even what shifts Orin would put his guards on. In short, Skarde knew when and where to place a cavalry charge.

As the morning sun kissed the rugged peaks, the cavalry units assembled at the mouth of the mountain pass, their steeds pawing the earth in restless anticipation. The air crackled with a sense of impending fervour, and the soldiers' hearts pounded in unison with the rhythmic drumming of hooves. The thunderous uproar of the cavalry charge down the mountain pass echoed through the valley below, startling flocks of birds into chaotic flight. With precision and unity that only years of training could bestow, the horsemen weaved through the serpentine path with breathtaking elegance. Hooves kicked up sparks of fire from the rocks, and the dust billowed like a shroud behind them. The charging warriors exuded an air of invincibility, their faces masked with fierce determination as they hurtled towards the enemy with unyielding momentum. The sun cast elongated shadows that danced with the riders, further accentuating the almost mythical aura surrounding the awe-inspiring spectacle. In the face of adversity, the cavalry charged as one, hearts pounding with the rhythm of war, embodying the spirit of victory that surged through their veins. The mountain pass became a theatre of valour, where courage knew no bounds, and legends were born amid the tumultuous symphony of battle.

Orin led his forces in a counterattack against the devastating Oresund charge. Those who survive the encounter say that Orin cleaved through shield, armour and horse alike, blood glistening in the day's light from his twin-bladed axe. He was accompanied by a Fenrik bodyguard. It is said that the Fenrik's skin was made of black smoke, their eyes glowed green, and they had horns made of snake while their weapons screamed and cried as flesh was hewn. Orin and his guard fought through the Oresund lines and to Arvid-Vano. He came upon him with a furious rage, axe cleaving Arvid-Vano's horse from the legs. Arvid-Vano had enough time to raise his shield, yet Orin's axe bit down, cleaving shield and skull alike. The Chieftan of Oresun lay dead.

With Orin's forces engaged, Revna and her remaining forces within the town mounted a breakout, the roar of battle echoing through the air. The Shieldmaidens within Harag fought fiercely to break free from the besieged town's confines. Adorned in glistening armour and gleaming weapons, they formed an unyielding wall of valour against the enemy forces. The siege had taken its toll on those within the town, but the Shieldmaidens' determination remained unwavering. As flames raged around them, the brave warriors cut through the enemy ranks with unrelenting prowess, clearing a path towards the nearby docks where their salvation awaited. Guided by their indomitable spirit and camaraderie, the Shieldmaidens charged forward, leaping over barricades and rushing past crumbling buildings, relentlessly pursuing their freedom aboard the waiting ships that would bear them away from Harag, with Orin's forces unable to pursue in a timely manner.

The Oresund cavalry broke from the melee, regrouping. A horn call to fall back sounded throughout the basin at the site of Revna's banner flying from the ships that had broken free. By the day's end, Orin's forces would hold the key location of Harag, having missed the opportunity to defeat her completely due to the cleverness of Skarde the Ironbred and the valiant sacrifice of Arvid-Arno Chieftain of Clan Oresund. Arvid-Arno's second son Grom Gloryman tells the tale that he was the last of Revna's forces to leave the field, that he was able to turn back Orin's pursuing skirmishers by removing his helmet and blinding them with the awe and brilliance of his glorious shining hair.

The Aftermath

Since the first efforts in taking this account weeks ago, Revna's forces have regrouped and marched on Mordenholt. Orin's own forces amass at the Harag Pass, the armies of Aslak and Felnir joining with Orin's to mobilize to Mordenholt. An Althing has been called, and both sides have agreed to produce pieces to reforge the horn of the Einherjar and awaken the High King. It would seem as though at Mordenholt, this bloody and vicious conflict will end one way or the other.

Yet, we stand on the precipice of yet another. Hale and his army of wayward zealots close in on Mordenholt as well. I feel as though there will be many dark days ahead…

Go to Warcry!

Thank you, that is all.

Alright fine, let me start by introducing you to your multinational team. We’ve pulled players from multiple guilds across multiple countries. Please welcome your Shaper, Narrator and Staff teams!! I absolutely suck at graphic design so just cut me some slack on these sad posters. I did my best.

I have a meeting with our webdev’s next week to get our Global website updated to include a FAQ and some Warcry specific info but here is the coles notes:

Date: Aug 4th, 2023 to Aug 7th, 2023
Location: 36 Walker’s Road, Fenelon Falls Ontario.
This is 100 acres of dedicated LARP site owned by Guildhouse Jericho. Site will have air conditioned bathrooms and hand washing stations.
Tavern: Working on it.
Cost: Full weekend tickets: $150 CAD
Early Tickets: $130 CAD (post dates shortly)
Discounts: Save $15 if you prelog and pre-purchase tickets (once logistics opens)
Save $15 if you take a 4 hour NPC shift
Please note: This Global event is a profit share (assuming there is some) and is divided up fairly by the staff who run it.
Blankets: 2

Event Prelog will open July 1st, 2023. We’ll also get a form up next to allow you to submit questions easily.
While our Org Chart is mostly up to date it’s still a long time between now and Warcry so we may update as needed. Shortly we will be working on assigning a staff member to help those travelling in with anything they may need (tents, large weapons that don’t fit on planes, etc)

Vendors: Coming soon!

Stay Tuned!

“Maud’Madir and my Greenskin allies in Amarthania. Will you help us rebuild Hope and Light? A safe harbour in the darkness, not to those who preach falsely in the name of Rodrick Hale and his Church of “Light”, but simply for those with goodness in their hearts? I say the Church is corrupt! That there is a malignant heart full of taint where once love used to be, and the gods are blind to it. If such is true, then we must build another. One they can see. A Church of true Justice, Law, Love, and Mercy. A church to stand against whatever Archbishop Hale leads today. A rebel Church. A Bastion… “

And with that please join us in welcoming “Bastions” to the Global Plot arsenal. “Bastions” is a massive multi-year, Guildhouse spanning Global plotline, to rebuild our Church of Light. I don’t want to ruin all the IG fun and plot but we do need to set the scene and explain some OOG mechanics. Please read our FAQ below.

- Adjudicator Elija Quintrell, Priest of Kael
https://underworldlarp.com/community/skein-gate/the-first-bastion/

What is a Bastion?

Let’s be real, the Church of Light in the last two decades hasn’t really been that uh… how should we say, “good.” We recognize this, we’ve heard from our Light following players and the general consensus is that it’s difficult to play a light follower in a 18+ horror game. It’s also even more difficult when your supporting organization is sometimes so good they’re evil. Hard to be a good guy when your church is burning anybody who has a W in their name because that’s the first letter in how you spell Wytch. How do we address this? In the same way we solve all problems. We burn it to the ground! We let the fields go fallow then we plant new seeds. We’re sowing them now and I promise, in the near future, the reaping will come. I don’t know exactly what that means but it sounded cool.

So while you’re burning down the Church of Light, or at least trying, we’re building what will be the new church and it’s nothing like the old. It all starts with Bastions. Bastions are locally built underground or rebel Churches of Light. Unconnected for now, by sharing the same goal.

Bastions aren’t just hopeful concepts. Without spilling the beans here, I’ll say they are established by specific NPCs known as Bastion Leaders. For now, they are magical in nature, and I’ll let you figure out the rest IG.

(Best announcer voice)
“By order of your Global Shaper Team, every Guildmaster and every Guild is hereby ordered to build a Rank 1 Bastion.”

For the record, they already know, and many of you have it already.

What’s a Bastion Rank?

I’m glad you asked. To make this more fun, and to give you some micro-accomplishments to work on (get that serotonin!), we’re ranking them. Each Guildmaster has the option to run Bastion missions for their town. Success on these missions will raise your rank by one. Your bastion rank may have town wide positive effects so it’s within your interests to work towards it, if you see the opportunity. In addition, across the Global landscape, all your Bastion ranks will be calculated and a total Global Bastion Rank will be tracked and displayed. This will have positive global effects. That being said, you are not without opposition. The current Church of Hale isn’t going to be idle. There are things they may do that might lower the global Bastion Rank and possibly your local rank. As the current church does things, you will start to notice negative effects across the global landscape. Maybe “night” starts an hour earlier at 5pm. Maybe zombies are a little bit faster and imps are a little bit tougher. Maybe you folks do really well in your Bastion Missions and “night” starts at 7pm. We’ll see as the plots progress. As you can see from these really basic examples, these effects may benefit you, even if you don’t have goodness in your heart, but see more below on that.

You’re also not alone in this. Bastions, as you’ll see from the IG post, exist now in many places and are actively being established in many more. This list of Bastion towns is IG and we will not release it here (OOG).

What’s a Bastion Mission?

Bastion Missions take place exclusively in the Celestial Heavens. These God Heavens are now defined and on the wiki for each God. These heavens, and these Bastion Missions that will utilize them, have rules that your GM’s know. There may be individual mechanics that may come into play as you enter these missions. As an example, Malagant’s heaven may not allow Light followers to transport in. Our Rebel Church of Light minions may have to call upon the aid of somebody less light to help. Those are negotiations I would love to be a fly on the wall for. That’s all you're going to get out of me.

I don’t like the Light.

We got covered, fam. Again without revealing too much just know and trust that we have you atheists, Dark Followers, and Dragon lovers covered. There will be IG reasons to tie you into this, so you can take part in the fun (if you want).

What happens after we burn it to the ground?

That’s a FOIG but know that we have plans and if you are a traditional light follower, or just enjoy the world building process, this will make sense in the end and be an enjoyable aspect of the UW universe.

How do I get involved?

I can’t answer that directly, as these are all being run by your local Guildmaster, but I would guess it will be fairly obvious once the plots get rolling and Bastion Missions start happening. Depending on the current local plots going on it may be something easy to find or something a little more challenging at the start. My suggestion, be good. Help NPCs like the farmers and peasants and make the goodness in your heart apparent to your shaper team. I suspect they’ll find you.

Where do I track my Bastion Rank?

We’ll cover that very soon, we’re just building the backend system on the website.

Friends,

I am Adjudicator Elija Quintrell of the Citadel and Priest of Kael. Although my rank and title have been disavowed by Rodrick Hale and the false Church of Light, I still beacon.

Full truth, I am now a criminal, hunted down by my own brothers and sisters of the Light. The church has charged me with a multitude of crimes, many of which are true by the law's definition, but know that my judges are unjust.

I send this notice with my messenger to the nearest functioning Skein Gate. I also send it with my prayers.

My life was not always like this.

Three years ago I started noticing inconsistencies within the church. It was never obvious but over time I developed a nagging feeling in the back of my skull that something was off. Little things, like men and women of strong faith being passed up for promotions I believed they earned. Those that did rise in the ranks were not all bad people, but they were not… I don’t know if there is a word… they were not known to me. I am not trying to exaggerate my popularity or importance within the Citadel, or Church in general. I am a soldier in the Light’s army, but those around me that gained ranks fast were not friendly. I could not become friends with them to gain their measure. They started showing traits of impatience and cruelty.

Regardless, strange as it was, it was not unheard of for something like this to happen. Strategies change in the ever evolving war against the dark. What the qualities we look for in today’s leader may change tomorrow. I chalked it up to a simple change in ideology that came far above my pay grade.

But it became more.

As time progressed it was obvious to me that certain people were being moved into positions of power within the Church, including the Citadel. The Church itself is fallible but never in my life would I say this about the Citadel. The Citadel is supposed to be untouchable. We are the cleansing fire when darkness takes hold. To see this beginning to take root in my own order shook me to my core. There were missions of mercy and cleansing that many of us were not asked to be part of. Permission and requests to bring holy justice to places of obvious corruption and malfeasance were denied. Or worse, approved but then given to others to lead and to execute. What became the most strange was the reaction my equals had when I brought it to light. It was ignored. These were my brothers and sisters, people I had fought beside for over two decades. Good light fearing soldiers of the Gods who had saved my life more times than I can count, just ignored me. My warnings and concerns fell upon deaf ears and it struck me as almost supernatural. Like a cloud of compliance had been placed around their senses.

I don’t know why I was immune but did find others. It took some time and I don’t trust this communication by betraying our numbers, but there were others who also saw this impunity spreading like a web. At first we met openly but after the mysterious deaths of a few of us, we started closing ranks. It was then we knew we needed to leave.

The church had become more brazen in their quest for expansion and control. We started to see attacks being made on towns that did not appear to need cleansing. This has always been a contentious subject but some of these towns appeared to offer no evidence of corruption whatsoever. There was another objective and we could not discern what it was.

Before we left we came upon a map of Maud’Madir in a high ranking Bishop’s office. On it were marked many towns. We recognized some of these as targets we were ordered to cleanse or were scheduled to be cleansed. We also knew that at least most of these places were innocent to the crimes they had been charged with. Whatever was happening we understand that these towns were a focal point. If this corrupted Church wished them destruction or worse, then it was our holy duty to protect them. With no other options we left in darkness. Many of us did not make it to our destinations and those brothers and sisters will be missed, but we are here nonetheless and we will shine.

I will not publicly post where I am but, since my arrival, things in the church have only gotten worse. Rodrick Hale is no servant of the Light Gods! How he casts his miracles in their names, I do not know. Why the Gods of light have seemingly abandoned us to his will and desire, I do not know. What I do know is I have faith. I have faith in the Gods but in their apparent absence I have faith in the tenets they stand for. That is enough for now.

Seek out my brothers and sisters, for we are here in many of your towns. If we are not then we are arriving soon. We do not seek power or to lead this rebel church but we will help build it with you. If your town is a member of the Whiteraven Alliance then I beg you to keep your voice silent for now, for the church will hunt us if we are discovered. Make no mistake they will hunt us well past the Alliance borders but it is most dire there. We must bide our time and grow our strength.

To the good hearted people of Maud’Madir and my Greenskin allies in Amaranthia. Will you help us rebuild hope? A safe harbour in the darkness? Not to those who preach falsely in the name of Rodrick Hale and his Church of “Light”, but simply for those with goodness in their hearts? I say the current Church is corrupt! That there is a malignant heart full of taint where once love used to be, and the Gods are blind to it. If such is true, then we must build another. One they can see. A Church of true Justice, Law, Love, and Mercy. A Church to stand against whatever it is that Archbishop Hale leads today. A rebel Church. A Bastion Church.

Alright I’ve procrastinated this as long as I could. Warcry 2023 is officially in Fenelon Falls Ontario, on land I own called Vandalheim. It’s the same location where we run our Jericho events. We got players coming from all over the world. I got 20+ in Florida, I don’t know how many from Alberta but a good chunk! Nova Scotia and hopefully Japan… we got a game brewing.

That being said, we need help. I need Shapers, Narrators, Monster Marshals, and the whole crew. Currently our Global Warcry team is myself, Kieran Lawless, Scott Hopkins, and Trevor Moores-Mollica (Our Mournfall GM crew) and while we’ve got the over plot nailed down, we need more writers and folks to fill amazing bad guy roles. I guess good guys too.

I will say the four of us cannot run a Warcry solo. Not at the quality you expect and deserve. I’ve broken down the positions into Greater and Standard Roles. Greater roles we NEED, Standard we also need but in lowercase. If you’re applying for a Greater role and you are having troubles getting here, reach out at the email address below and we’ll see if we can help out. Warcry is a profit sharing event and getting your expenses covered is considered overhead.

Site Update
This will come soon but we’re going all out. We’ll be renting air conditioned bathrooms and we’re going to try for showers. We’ll post more once we get a little organized.

Important Links

Other than that, here is the application and if you have any issues please email us below!
Global Shaper email Warcry2023@uwlarp.com
Warcry OOG Update Discord Channel https://discord.gg/nqZeGDCtZG
Warcry 2023 Staff Application https://forms.gle/RVLo4N2QwkWjau6z9
