Looking for player feedback re: gnome racial changes
#1
Although gnomes are not purchasable in 2017 we've received complaints about their racials for a few years now. Namely the complexity, the stockpiling and the extra work required by shapers. I attempted to simplify that with this proposal. Very interested in opinions from existing gnome players but all are welcome to reply in this thread.

---

Advantages

Gnomish Device (Purchased):

Through skilled tinkering a gnome can create fantastical gadgets which mimic magic items. For each purchase of Gnomish Device, a gnome is able to build and maintain 1 additional device. These devices all have 1 positive and 1 negative effect attached to them and the gnome may choose from a list of 10 devices during prelog, provided by the Shaper team. They will last for as long as the gnome desires, but during prelog a gnome may abandon an old device and select a new one from the device list. Devices may not be switched mid-event.

Upgrade (Automatic):

Gnomes are constantly attempting to upgrade and improve the devices they own. During each event's prelog a gnome may select one existing device they own and state that they’ve been working to improve it. Doing this will temporarily remove the negative effect attached to it and will also grant a 1 in 10 chance of a) the device permanently gaining a +1/day use OR +1 permanently to it’s effect (damage, strength bonuses, etc). Negative effects on devices will remain disabled until the next event the gnome attends, at which time they will return. There are no limits to how many times a device may undergo an upgrade.

Disadvantage

Psychosomatic Static:

Gnomes hate magic and magical items in particular. This manifests in a psychological condition in that if a gnome ever comes into contact with a magic item they will begin to sneeze violently. This sneezing will continue so long as the gnome continues touching the item and will make it impossible for the gnome to active any per day/hour/etc items. Gnomes may handle magic items that don’t have activations, such as magical swords and armour, however they will sneeze continuously while doing so.

Father says, "Yay"

I also say, "Mother of God, yes please"

This is a very interesting and pleasing proposal. Maintenance, Passive Meltdown Ratings, and Meltdown Pouches get immense over time in terms of Shaper intensity and rep carrying for all the pouches. This would be a pleasant and fun fix Smile

This sounds like a cool way to keep the flavour and minimize necessity of OOG interaction to a 1/10 roll at Log time. May want to add that Upgrades are lost if the Device is swapped, if that's the intent.

Clarification:

The list of 10 devices would be provided to each guild as default, or they can create their own lists. Also, items could be changed at that guild's discretion.

Swapping out an item loses it permanently so yeah, they are. Every new device you get starts fresh. If you take one you've had before it doesn't come with the old upgrades.

My vote is a resounding yes. Top shelf!

Spirit Link is not constant contact. You just cannot go more than 5ft from it without it reappearing touching you.

The obvious answer is to not put out things with contingency spirit link on them, or set the contingency to the first non-gnome that picks it up.

If they did, I would think having them keep it in a backpack or bag would suffice. They still cannot use the item. If they do, then the sneezings and limitations as outlined.

I think the simplest way to word the Disadvantage is if a gnome tries to USE a magic item they sneeze uncontrollably and can't. This includes weapons, armour, etc. But not while the item is simply in their posession.

What would be the reason for that specification?
